The aim of the assignment is to apply software CAD to design an open metal mine. Software CAD is very popular in designing the 2D drawings, such as mechanical drawing, open mine pit drawing, building drawing and so on. If it is necessary, CAD can be used in the designing of 3D drawings. The following figure is an example that CAD is used in the design of an open metal mine.

Overview:
The paper is mainly for the research of open metal mine. As to the traditional research method, it is very difficult to demonstrate the idea of the designer intuitionally. But with the help of software CAD, we can demonstrate our design very intuitionally. Although we can use CAD, the calculation is also the most import item, you should first have a feasibility program base on the precise calculation. The calculations include building site, the volume of the mine, the width of the haul road and so on.
In order to complete the assignment, the main contents of the paper is as following:
1. Confirm the design parameter, have a full comprehensive of the requirement.
2.  Have a rough estimate of the volume of waste -including swell- to be stored and the waste dump layout should cater for this volume and tonnage of ores (different colors represent different ore types)
3.  Do the calculation for the related parameter before design the drawings.
4.  After complete all the calculation and confirm all the parameters, do the drawing.
With the above research method, the workers who execute the building can complete the mine establishment very easily, because if the any confusion happened, the building parameter can refer to the design drawings.

  The following parameter is the input data, the design should be according to the parameters
a)      Working face batter angle: 65?
      Effective final pit wall batter: 50 including haul road
b)  Bench height: 15m
c)  Haul road width: 20m
?  d)  Haul road direction: Clockwise
?  e)  Minimum turning cycle radius: 25m
??f)  Haul road gradient: 8%
??g)  You must determine the final berm width
??h)  The top of the final open pit should be no less than 100m from any buildings.
??i)  Maximum waste dump height 100m, rehabilitation slope angle 18? and final swell   25%.
??j)  Toe of the dump must be at least 100m back from top of final pit and from the processing plant.
??k) The length of haul road from the top of the open pit to the plant and the waste dump should be minimize.
Base on the above data, the parameter that need to calculation is as following:
a)      Number of Benches
Depth of pit = 165 m, bench height = 15 m
Number of benches = Pit depth / bench height = 165/15 = 11
b)      Bench face with
Width of pit wall = Wall height / tan50 =165 /tan50 =138.45 m
Slope face width = Bench height / tan65 = 15/tan65 = 6.995 m
c)      Singular bench width
Total bench width = Total wall width – Haul Road Width ×2 – Total slope face width = 138.45m – ( 20m × 2 ) – ( 11 × 6.995 ) = 21.505 m
There are only 8 benches on the wall, since 2 the benches are eliminated by the haul road, and the final bench is located on the surface.
Bench width = Total bench width / number of benches = 21.505 m / 11 = 1.955m

The footprint of the processing plant is 100 m by 50 m, the location of the processing plant is in the north of the pit. The distance between the top of the pit and the center of the processing plant is 200 m
The footprint of mine office is 100 m by 50 m, the location of the office is in the south of the pit. The distance between the top of the pit and the center of office is 100 m.
The footprint of the mine workshop is 50 m by 20 m, the location of the office is in the west of pit. The distance between the top of the pit and the center of the workshop is 250 m.
